Remembering Our Veterans

The Town of Fairmount Heights celebrates and honors some of its veterans and home town heroes.  Fairmount Heights citizens honorably served in all U.S. wars that date back to World War I  This month, the Town is recognizing four of our veterans.

Corporal James H. Richardson

Corporal Richardson fought in the Korean War and served from 1951 to 1952.  He was assigned to the 25th Division, 89th Tanker 35th Company.  He was assigned to drive a military tanker during war- time. Corporal Richardson is a life-long resident of the Town of Fairmount Heights and will be celebrating his 89th birthday come February 2019 and he and his wife, Sarah will be celebrating 70 years of marriage.  Thank you for your service.

Sergeant Stella Hargrove

Sergeant Stella Hargrove graduated from H.D. Woodson High School, Washington, D.C. in 1981.  She immediately joined the United States Army and proudly served for eight years.  She received several awards during her military career. The awards included:  Medals for Good Conduct, Army Achievement Medal, and Ribbons for Army Services, Overseas Service and NCO Professional Development.  Sergeant Hargrove was elected to the Fairmount Heights Town Council in May 2017.  Thank you for your service.

Specialist E-4 Carlton Whittingham

Specialist Carlton Whittingham served in the United States Army for six years.  He enlisted on October 22, 1979 and served until October 1985.  He completed Boot Camp at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and completed A.I.T. training at Fort Lee, Virginia.  He was deplored to Germany for 18 months and was assigned to the military police.  He spent his last two years at Bowling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. and served in the National Guard. Carlton joined the Town of Fairmount Heights  Public Works Department in 1991 and is currently the Supervisor of the Department.  Thank you for your service.

Specialist E-4 James Edward Pinkney 

Specialist James E. Pinkney enlisted in the United States Army in 1965 during the Vietnam Era. He was trained as a Dental Assistant.  After training he was deplored to the 97th General,  Frankfurt, Germany from 1965 to 1967.  In 1968 her was assigned to Fort Meyers, Virginia and his final assignment was at Walter Reed, Hospital.  Mr. Pinkney is the Code Enforcement Officer for the Town of Fairmount Heights.  Thank you for your service.

Specialist James D. Martin

Specialist Martin served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966.  He was trained at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  Specialist Martin is the husband of Mayor Lillie Thompson Martin.  Thank you for your service
